Fiberoptic and 5G

Fiberoptic cables are used to provide high-speed internet to homes and businesses across the nation, be it to your home or a new 5G cable to a phone tower. These cables can be set through several different methods of drilling, such as Micro-Trenching and Stitch Boring. Micro-Trenching is a technique where a more shallow and narrow tunnel is bored, deep enough to go below surface level roads and ground, but not deep enough to interfere with pre-existing utility lines or other hazards in the ground. Stitch Boring uses air powered earth-piercing tools to bore through soil that isn't overly dense. This is particularly useful in residential areas for drilling service lines for homes.

Micro Trenching

Micro trenching is a technique used for the installation of fiber optic cables, particularly in urban and residential areas. It involves creating a narrow trench, typically just a few inches wide and deep, along the desired cable path. This method minimizes disruption to the existing infrastructure and reduces the need for extensive excavation.

The process begins with a specialized cutting machine that creates a precise trench in the ground, often using a vacuum system to remove debris. The fiber optic cable is then carefully placed within the trench and covered with a suitable material, such as concrete or asphalt, to protect the cable and restore the surface.
